hi, i'm maggie.

(like the rod stewart song)

i'm a millennial living in the bay area who loves dark beer, the environment, and sewing for the tiny humans in my life. more

my husband and I love the west wing. we named our cat after one of the characters (chairman Percy fitzwallace) and entered our wedding reception to the theme song, to confusion of most of our guests (and delight of a select few).

One of my very favorite moments in the show is when the communications director speaks to his newborn twins.

so we found out we were expecting this past august i knew i had to make our little nugget a hat.

naturally i turned to my favorite pattern company: oliver + s and made the bucket hat from the ‘little things to sew’ book.

i had made this hat once before for Maya’s paddington costume, so it was a breeze to whip up. i decided on this cat in the hat fabric ( cat in the hat hat…so meta). for the reverse side i went with a polka double gauze that matched the cover of the seuss classic.

even though little things to sew is now out of print you can still purchase many of the patterns, including the reversible bucket hat, Individually in digital format on the oliver + s website.

now that jude has actually used the hat I have to say it lives up to the oliver + s standard. the wide brim protects his neck from the sun in the back and keeps it out of his eyes in the front. not to mention jude looks fantastic in it!
