remember the pandemic?
(like the rod stewart song)
i'm an elder millennial living in the bay area who loves dark beer, the environment, and sewing for the tiny humans in my life.
for halloween this year i decided the kids would go as characters from jude’s current favorite book: strega nona.
when jude was about two months old we found our groove and began taking advantage of all the great nature of the bay area by going on hikes together.
once a year, usually when i’m traveling for the holidays, i take up knitting for a bit. i inevitably do a few projects before reverting to sewing as my medium of choice for creative expression.
before covid-19 hit the states victor and i went on a babymoon to big sur. we stayed at the treebones resort and enjoyed four days of no cell reception, hiking, and yurt living. if california’s central coast isn’t on your bucket list it should be!
my husband and i have distinctly different styles in the kitchen: victor will take the time to plan, shop for, and execute an awesome elaborate meal. whereas i use what we have in the house to whip up an awesome simple meal.
this is a soup i made last fall when i was pregnant (and very nauseous) with some vegetables we had on hand (butternut squash and sweet potatoes) the rest of the ingredients are pretty standard pantry staples for us.
is this thing on?!
Between the new house, trips, lots of visitors, and a generally busy millennial lifestyle, I haven’t had time to sew, let alone blog recently. however when maya specifically requested a back to school dress three weeks ago I knew it was time to change that.
my in-laws are currently cleaning out victor’s late grandparent’s home, which means there are a lot of lovely things they are trying to find homes for.
over the holidays they encouraged victor and myself to take anything we could find a use for. when I saw a giant bag of embroidery thread in victor’s grandmother’s cross stitching supplies, I knew it would be perfect for my nieces to make friendship bracelets.
but wait, there are more flower girl fabric leftovers!
i used was able to squeeze one more piece out of the lovely honeycomb fabric from fabric depot I used for the garden party dress and mini southport dress: an oliver + s butterfly top in the 12 - 18 month size.
a quick break from sewing posts!
for our first anniversary victor and I took a trip to truckee, california (a mountain town about 16 miles north of lake tahoe) for the winter wondergrass music festival.
more flower girl fabric leftovers!
i was smitten with the true bias mini southport dress from the moment i saw it and couldn’t wait to make my own. however as we all know being really excited about something often leads to building it up in your head and being let down by the reality.
so for over a year now I've had a several yards of white eyelet fabric left over from the flower girl dresses i made my nieces for our wedding.
baby clothing continues!
what to make for a baby girl whose dad is a big hunter? something out of the cotton + steel arrow print of course!
mk 2.0 (aka my niece maya) is starting first grade, so a new dress was in order!
our friends recently had a baby girl, so i whipped up this little top for her to wear next summer.
