costumes & dress up
before the trick-or-treaters head out i wanted to revisit some of my favorite costumes & dress up outfits and give a preview of this year.
fairy sisters
the first costume i made wasn't for halloween. nora and i were watching a tinkerbell film (yes there is more than one) and she expressed for her and her sister to be able to dress up like tinkerbell and her twin sister periwinkle.
challenge accepted.
with the help of this queen of the flies post i altered the fairy tale dress pattern from oliver + s into some pretty awesome costumes.

peacock
a few months later my sister and i decided that for halloween maya should be a peacock. using some apples fabric from the liberty of london fruits and leaves collection i picked up from gather here i made an oliver + s bubble dress.
and completed the look with a fan, which was kona cotton also from gather here.
more details on the peacock costume here.
paddington
the next year i went all out. maya had been read some paddington books and was smitten with him. using the school days coat pattern from oliver + s and some awesome paddington fabric i made her coat.
the hat was the bucket hat from the little things to sew book by oliver + s and the suitcase was my own design.
however the costume was really made by a last minute addition: with a scrap of muslin, a sharpie, some left over cording and wool, i made a tag for her coat.
more on the paddington costume here.
coming soon
this year maya is obsessed with violet from the incredibles. enter the playtime leggings from oliver + s, which i first made with the snow day dress here and the oliver + s school bus t-shirt (a new pattern for me). here is a sneak peak...
happy halloween!
love,
aunt maggie
