pandemic baby starts preschool (with an owl backpack)
my pandemic baby started preschool!
I made jude an owl backpack, which is a variation of the penguin backpack from the oliver + s ‘little things to sew’ book. (even though that book is out of print you can still buy the pattern here.)
as with the other versions i’ve made of this backpack, i used ‘owls all around’ print from adornit’s nested owls collection for the lining, but this time i used the gender neutral mint version of the print. (for maya and etta’s girly versions i used the pink version and for my co-workers son i used the blue version)
the main outer fabric is canvas, which came from stonemountain & daughter. for the owl feet and beak i used the cotton + steel xoxo print in dandelion left over from the coat for any given sunday i made a few years ago. the belly fabric came from my stash, but was originally from a verb for keeping warm.
this backpack has been such a staple of our lives the past few years. in addition to taking it to school daily it comes along on almost every outing to hold the snacks and has even gone on several cross country plane rides.
